Frequently asked questions

What are your fees and how long is each session?

Sessions are 50 minutes long and are £50.  I offer concessionary rates for people

who are on a low income.

Please ask if this is something you would like to discuss.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, as well as offering in person sessions in York, I'm also pleased to be able

to offer the flexibility of Zoom sessions too.

Can we meet beforehand so I can decide whether counselling is right for me?

I offer a 30 minute free consultation for us to explore whether counselling feels

right for you and what you might like to achieve.

We can also discuss whether you would prefer in person or online sessions.

If you are not sure at this stage, that's ok, this is something we can

explore together.

What will happen in our first session?

In our first session I will take some details and it is an opportunity for you to share

what is happening for you right now, and we can explore any goals you have

and what you'd like to gain.  We will also go through the contract together.

You will have already received a copy, and you will be able to ask any questions

if you need clarification on anything.

What is person centred therapy?

Person centred therapy is a non-directive therapy, which means that I will not tell

you what to do or offer you advice.  Person centred therapy can empower clients

to find their independence and help to build confidence.

Relationship is central to person centred therapy, and therefore it's important

to have a relationship with my clients that is built on trust and acceptance.

This is why I strive to offer a space that feels safe and non-judgemental so that

clients can find their 'authentic' selves.

How will you protect my confidentiality?

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and respecting clients' confidentiality and privacy is central to my work.

I work in line with the professional standards outlined in the BACP ethical

framework.
